Diversity in Thought — The Whole Brain® Thinking Model
It was great seeing everyone at this month’s virtual CWIT July meetup — what a turnout! While I’ve led numerous Whole Brain® Thinking sessions in a corporate environment, this was the first time I facilitated for a non-profit, community group. Given that we are already committed to diversity in technology and with the recent diversity dialogues going on in the US right now, it seemed natural to introduce the Whole Brain® Thinking framework in this forum.
This framework ties unique thinking preferences and how our brains process information to how we can effectively collaborate and communicate in teams. Whole Brain® Thinking sets out four quadrants represented in each of our brains with some quadrants taking preference over the other: Analytical, Practical, Relational and Experimental. The model focuses on being able to fully leverage one’s own preferences, stretch to other styles when necessary and adapt to and take advantage of the preferences of those around you to improve performance and results.
The CWIT participants had a great discussion on how we can apply this model to our professional lives, to broader Diversity and Inclusion discussions and how we can leverage the framework as women in technology.
